I'm sure none of you want to see how long you can go without food, but science suggest the longest we can go without food is 4-5 weeks. Humans have spent most of their time looking for food. Most of us have heard that “you are what you eat”. The truth is that you are what you eat and what you absorb. Food is comprised of macro and micro nutrients that our body uses for energy and many other functions. We need carbohydrates, fats and protein to energize and build our bodies. The nutrients form food that we need, but the general population knows little about what the minerals, vitamins and fatty acids actually are. These nutrients have many functions, such as healing the body, detoxing the body, and transporting nutrients to the cells. When our body is lacking in any of these micro or macro nutrients, our bodies will age faster and increase the chance of disease.

There are many problems with our food in the world today, and these problems differ depending on economics. In America I like to think we are like a 16-year-old kid, and we have all the answers and we know what’s best. The truth is, we make a lot of mistakes and we will have to learn from them in the very near future. Most cultures have spent thousands of years learning how to prepare foods and get the proper nutrients from them to survive and grow. If we go further back, the hunters and gathers had to find food out of necessity. America, being a young country, does not have the thousands of years of trial and error of learning how to prepare foods for optimal nutrients and absorption.  We, being young and somewhat dumb, pick the parts of foods that we like from other cultures and disregard the rest. Here lies a big problem: we no longer are getting the optimal nutrition from that food and/or that food is now a stress on our body, rather than giving us energy.

Problem number two is that there is so much garbage that we call food in our world. I know it tastes good and we all want to have it, but these foods that provide us little to no nutrient value maybe the primary reason for early disease and premature death. There are studies being shown that the baby boomers will outlive their kids and grandkids if we don’t change. I will be the first to tell you that studies cans be misleading, but the fact that is even being studies is enough evidence that we need to change.

Problem number three is that we have no idea what is good and what is bad, who to listen to and who to ignore. We watch TV, reading magazines and learn in school what to eat and what not to. Then the next week someone tells us differently. No wonder this such a hard topic and causes so much confusion.

I am going to keep this as simple as possible and give you some rules to follow. Just keep in mind that no one taught you what is good or bad for you so it’s time for you to start to learn. If you have existing health conditions, then rules may not always apply. It doesn’t mean they aren’t good rules; it’s just that your body no longer works as it once did. Once you start getting your health back these rules will start to apply.

If there is one diet you should ever do it's a High Fat Low Carb Diet...

  • Eat real food. This means the closer it is to nature, the better chances it will be good for you.
  • Stop watching and listen to the media about health and nutrition. Find the people that look healthy and act healthy and listen to them. I would be a very good example of that.
  • Start by only changing one meal at a time until it becomes easy, and then change the second.
  • If you are overweight, you need to eat more lean animal proteins, veggies, and fruits (in that order) and fewer carbohydrates. Animal protein for breakfast might be your life saver.
  • Be creative and find other ways to prepare and other sources of food. Don’t eat the same thing every day.
  • Eat fresh and don’t overcook all of your foods.
  1. Eat organic when all possible.
  • Eat hormone-free meats and free-ranged grass beef whenever possible.
  • Eat gluten-free, and sparingly eat gluten-free products. Most are just crap without gluten in it.
  •  Be prepared. It’s very easy to eat crap, so if you are traveling. Find places in the area that have quality foods and save the address in your phone.
